The UAW Joint Funds: Opportunities and Dilemmas for Postsecondary Vocational Education

Created in the 1980s through new collective bargaining arrangements in the automotive industry, the UAW Joint Funds provide significant education and training opportunities for both active and inactive workers. This report examines the impact of Joint Funds on postsecondary vocational-technical education programs in five community colleges in Illinois and Michigan. These funds were seen as an integral part of the economic development and customized training efforts of the community.
