Full Text of NCRVE Publications Appear on the World Wide Web Server

Although hypertext versions of NCRVE newsletters and briefs have been appearing online since the server started up in April, September marked the appearance of the first "full-length" publications. The following are now available:

The Human Resource Directory and Agenda take full advantage of the ability of hypertext to draw together related information. For example, each Human Resource Directory entry has links to project descriptions from the Agenda and e-mail links that allow readers to compose a message to that person on the spot!

In addition, the latest CenterFocus (no. 9, "Education for All Aspects of the Industry"), CenterWork (vol. 6, no. 2), and Office of Student Services Brief (vol. 7, no. 1) are now available on the Web, as well as back issues of the OSS Briefs and executive summaries of seven recent NCRVE publications.

VOCNET and DISSMN8 Continue to Grow

VOCNET, NCRVE's listserv discussion list for all vocational education-related topics, has grown 19% since August 1, to the current high of 1,357 subscribers. Approximately 430 items were posted from August 1 to November 15, by about 280 different users.

DISSMN8, NCRVE's new listserv discussion list for educational dissemination-related topics, now boasts 60 subscribers. If you are interested in having input on what a National Educational Dissemination System (NEDS) might look like, please join in.

See the instructions at the end of this article to see how you can participate!

Don't Forget Vocserve, Gopher, and FTP!

Although the World Wide Web seems to be everyone's online medium of choice, NCRVE offers alternative paths to online information and communication. The full text of all smaller documents appear on the VocServe bulletin board system for reading online or downloading via modem, and the NCRVE Gopher and FTP servers offer plain text versions of most of those items as well.

A major upgrade of VocServe software is scheduled for late November. This will allow improved keyword searching, client software for Windows users (in addition to the client software already available for Macintosh users), and the ability to read hypertext documents (there's that Web again). If you haven't visited VocServe or the NCRVE Gopher recently, please stop by and see what's new!
