NET Gain No. 7: AskERIC (January 1997)

The number of World Wide Web (WWW) sites and listservs that are devoted to education is staggering. And there are new ones popping up every day. This NET Gain will be devoted to one site--AskERIC--that will lead you to a wonderland of information. AskERIC ( is a personalized Internet-based service that includes question-answering, the AskERIC Virtual Library (AEVL), an ERIC search engine, and links to myriad resources.

Anyone may send an education-related question to AskERIC. Questions sent to the AskERIC Web site or e-mail box ( are directed to one of the 16 Clearinghouses in the ERIC system. Responses, which take two working days, typically include a brief ERIC search, a publication such as an ERIC Digest and referrals to other resources such as a listserv, Web site, or professional organization.
