RELEVANCE OF VOCATIONAL EDUCATION TO SUBSEQUENT EMPLOYMENT

Cooperative education, apprenticeship, or other school-and-work programs engage students in school and work during the same period of time. The relationship between school and work is concurrent. In addition, high schools and two-year colleges, particularly their vocational education programs, include preparation for work as a major part of their mission. They are school-for-work programs. If they succeed, there should be a sequential connection between school and work. Evidence about this sequential link is reviewed in this section.
