SCHOOL-AND-WORK PROGRAMS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS

In this part of the report, we examine school-to-work programs that are widespread in U.S. high schools and secondary vocational centers. Of these, cooperative education is the most common and most established. More recent but rapidly spreading are various forms of new youth apprenticeship. Another traditional but often overlooked approach is school-based enterprise. In addition to these three forms of school-supervised work experience, we also discuss the effects of other work experience and non-school-supervised jobs, which most students now hold at some time during high school.
